I usually spend about 5 to 6 hours cooking a gumbo. This week I didn't have time. Finally tried the blue runner canned creole chicken and sausage base. I added some extra veggies, okra, chicken, smoked sausage, and a little seasoning. Let it cook down for about an hour and a half. Make sure to skim some of the fat off the top as it cooks.
Overall I was very impressed with the final product. Everyone at my house couldn't believe it wasn't homemade. I would definitely recommend to someone who doesn't have enough time to cook all day.

Somebody gave me a can of their seafood gumbo base. It was better than most gumbos you'd get in a restaurant outside of Louisiana.

I do the same also. Combine this with dry beans to add some creaminess.
