A while back I read a post that talked about a gasket repair on the BGE. I've had mine for 6 months and the gasket needs replacing. I did a search to find the thread, but it didnt show up.
I love my BGE and wished I would have made the switch sooner. I gave away my old smoker and gas grill. Definately worth the money.
Any advice will be appreciated.

The felt gaskets on all ceramic cookers are crappy. I have a primo ceramic grill. My gaskets lasted about 4 mo. There is a guy on the primo web forum that will sell you a synthetic gasket. I have one on my pit and it is great.
On the primo forum you have to register to read forums. Look under the classified ads message board. the first message on the subboard is titled Source for Cotronics 397 ceramic gasket. After you get the gasket there are other thread on that board that will tell you how to put it on. Its really easy to do.
Primo Grill Forum
that message board is a great board for ceramic cooking in general. Lots of egg heads on there so you will be welcomed and helped. really good people on the board. The guy selling the gaskets is honest and you can trust him. I think the gasket may be 15 bucks.

SKuter that is pretty close to what I have on my pit. Its not very hard to do.
The manufactures dont put these on the pits because the gaskets are USDA food safe. I dont cook on my gaskets so I really am not worried about that issue.

dont know your location but i had to go back to Goodwood Hardware (where the BGE came from) to buy a new gasket after my brother-in-law melted the gasket on mine. The new one was expensive but it is supposedly synthetic and can withstand higher temps than the shitty felt one - so far so good. Apparently there are some NOMEX gaskets out there but im not sure how much they are.

Big Green Egg sells a "high heat gasket" that I have started using. It lasts much longer especially if you are doing alot of high temp cooks.
I always take the top lid out when I replace the gasket. This makes it much easier to work with. I remove the old gasket, then clean the surface thoroughly. Apply the new gasket with spray adhesive, and let it set for 24 hours before I cook on it again. You will need some sharp scissors or a razor knife to cut the new gasket to size.
It can be a two man job to get it right if you haven't done it before.

I'm planning on winning a Big Green Egg at Hogs For The Cause next Saturday. Grand Champion gets the Egg I'm hearing...
