Is this just a NOLA thing?

Do any other places besides Robert & Langensteins sell this?

I don't remember all the ingredients so maybe someone else can help in that department.

Pretty damn good IMO.

White cheddar cheese, some type of finely chopped nuts, mayo, green onions and some spices. It is pretty fricking good Tigre. Langenstein's and Robert are the only places I have seen it. Those are the only two places I grocery shop.

sounds good...sounds like the redneck cheese dip things my granny makes, and i love those things too.

sounds like a recipe i saw on Paula Dean's show.

eta: think i only made it to Langenstein's once. They close too early.

Found this....

BETTER THAN BETTER CHEDDAR? After A.A.M. asked last week for a recipe to duplicate Langenstein's Better Cheddar dip, S.P. wrote in to say that she grates white Vermont cheese and chops green onions and nuts, then adds enough mayonnaise to combine. The white Cheddar is so sharp that she doesn't need to add more spices.

Then, oh happy day, P.D. of New Orleans wrote, "I hope someone from Langenstein's will respond with the real recipe, but in case they don't, below is a guess at a recipe that my friends pulled together years ago. It is very similar, and actually tastes even a little better than the real thing. It uses the homemade Creole mayonnaise recipe from the Jambalaya recipe book, altered slightly. We have all enjoyed this recipe for many years."

Even a little better than Better Cheddar

Makes about 2 pounds

1 pound smoked Gouda cheese, shredded

1 pound white sharp cheddar, shredded

3 green onions, chopped

1 cup walnuts, chopped

Mix all ingredients together with enough homemade Creole mayonnaise to get the correct consistency.

HOMEMADE CREOLE MAYONNAISE

1 ½ cups vegetable oil

1 egg

1 tablespoon Creole mustard

1 ½ tablespoon white vinegar

1 ½ tablespoon lemon juice

¼ teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon yellow prepared mustard

1 teaspoon salt

Dash of Tabasco

Place ¼ cup oil in blender. Add all other ingredients and blend. Add remaining oil a little at a time.
