Is actually good for the diet if you pop it in the microwave in a paper bag w/ no oil and don't use butter but just a touch of salt.

It's pretty loud, but I don't find it any louder than a normal blender. It also runs for a shorter cycle than most retail blenders. I notice a small difference with the shield up, but not huge. Go to a starbucks/cc's or any smoothie shop and they most likely have a commercial unit with sound shield. Same deal.
