If you clean the grey fatty part off the catfish, it tastes a lot better IMO.
If you don't remove the gray flesh, you're in a state of sin. If I were to find that disgusting stuff in restaurant fish, I'd return it as inedible. When I buy catfish at Albertsons, I end up discarding a good 20% of it.

It doesn't take much to taste better than farm raised catfish

All I know is Louisiana needs to learn how to compete. Scare tactics will only work so long. Of course, I see that some dumbasses here believe their bs.

Eat what you like. I eat Louisiana or Gulf Coast seafood. No Basa.

Basa is catfish, WTF is this thread about.

Why would the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise Program give two shits about people eating Louisiana catfish over basa? Answer is, they don't. They're an impartial outsider who gave their input, and since they're considered experts on the subject, I respect what they have to say.

The answer is they got paid. I don't believe a goddamn thing a liberal with an agenda has to say.
If anything is wrong with that fish, I can guarantee every coonass fishing company would have scientifically proven it and got it removed from grocery store shelves. They got zero proof that that fish is bad.
That's why they had to resort to scare tactics to pump bs in people's ears.

Fck any respectable restaurant that serves that stuff.
It's the same as the Landry's in Nola that is sitting over the lake. You have one of the worlds greatest fisheries right out the door and they service nothing but out of state and foreign frozen crap.
Acme got put on my no go list a few years back when their bean counters convinced them to switch to Basa, yet all of their marketing is about being new orleans based and serving great seafood.

So some Louisiana catfish farmer paid off an independent company in Vancouver? OK
Even if they're on an equal playing field in regards to quality and taste -- and I don't believe they are -- what's the benefit of eating/serving Vietnamese-raised fish as opposed to Louisiana-raised? The only reason restaurants do it is because it's dirt-cheap. Not sure why any person would willingly choose to eat it over Louisiana catfish, other than it's cheaper.

I’m pretty sure he meant the Louisiana products and seafood lobby and their like in other states, which is huge. I remember during Jindals admin there was a “Buy Louisiana seafood” push early in the admin.

I promise you, if I blind taste tested you Fried or Baked, you couldn’t tell the difference and you’d likely choose the Basa.
Anybody who tells you otherwise is in the highest percentile of seafood pallets

I'm not saying I could tell the difference. My point is, if there's no discernible difference, why would you choose basa over LA catfish?

...which is exactly what I said. Same premise as serving Chinese crawfish over Louisiana.

Well, that, and because I generally try to eat stuff that I think tastes better, and there is no comparison. Why would you intentionally try to eat something that is more expensive and not as tasty?

Then what is your argument here? If it taste the same why would any consumer give a frick about the price point the restaurant gets it at. You asked a question and then answered your own question with an answer that doesn't prove any point at all about Basa being worse than LA farm raised
Posted on 1/15/18 at 10:49 am to Howyouluhdat
My argument is that it’s NOT on the same level, as i stated earlier in the thread. I think it’s trash, raised in shitty conditions. The point is, even if it were the same, why would you choose Vietnamese over Louisiana. Same premise as eating Chinese crawfish. I don’t respect any restaurant in the GC who serves it instead of American.
Posted on 1/15/18 at 10:59 am to YoungManOldMan
Wow I knew South Louisiana was trashy having been born and live here but I didn't know it was full of pussies who think the tiny bit of grey on the bottom of a catfish piece was nasty. Jeez
