I don't remember the meat pies. I do remember her meatballs though. Always with a bottle of Reed's ginger beer if she had it.

The thing that killed Ronnie's was the location. The food itself was top-notch, but being located in the side of a crappy Hi-Nabor shopping center on Jones Creek simply killed it. There a couple of other good places on JC -- El Limon and Jasmines, and while they both remain open, they'd do much more business if they were located in a better location.

True dat. No one really knew it was there. I lived in Baton Rouge for years before I knew Ronnie's existed. I had reason to stop at Hi Nabor and just happened to notice the sign as I was getting out of my car. I nearly crapped my pants when I blindly stumbled upon an authentic hole in the wall that would become one of my favorite places to eat in the entire city.

Psst...my favorite lengua tacos in the city. Don't tell anyone.

and yes, Ronnie's was not only just flat out located in a bad spot, but it was sort of tucked away out of view as well. Even if you traveled Jones Creek daily, you wouldn't even know it was there.
