Any suggestions? Albasha, not much selection.

What exactly are you looking for? Albasha has a pretty good mix of typical things you'd find on a Mediterranean street corner that the American palate can handle, except for the seafood selection.

A couple of weeks ago as I waited for my togo order in whatever that Greek place is called in Denham next to DeAngelo's, I flipped through a couple of Greek cook books they had on the shelf. To my surprise very few of the dishes in the books were actually on the menu or even familiar. I think my perception of "authentic" Greek food is way off.
Maybe further research is warranted....

Most of what you get in "Greek" places is street food from across the Mediterranean and Near East areas. Shwarma, Gyros/Doner, Kafta, and others are usually all that an American palate would enjoy.

Serop's across from Whole Foods is the most authentic in Baton Rouge.

My mother in law was born in Greece and the holidays' menu at her house was nothing but that mess. It is good in small amounts, but damn it sucks in whole meals! Thing is she will not allow me to cook southern or Louisiana style food in her home.

All of the places mentioned are mostly Lebanese places, but of all of those, Kamal's Cafe next to Sno's is the best.

Go to the Placka in Athens and get you a gyro. Last time I was in Greece, they were about 75 cents.
