Alaskan Cruise Beer "reviews"

Tried lots of stuff up there.
Alaskan Brewing Company
Free Ride Pale Ale-thought it was a good PA
Icy Bay IPA-middle of the road
Amber-yuck
We went on a tour in Juneau and tried:
White-not a fan of the style so didn't like it much
Kicker Session-it was ok
Smoked Porter-you hate it or love it. Like a campfire in your mouth
Smash Galaxy Double IPA-very good.
Smash 431 IPA-also very good
Azzaca Pale-fantastic
We found out they do a shuttle from downtown with a tour and it is $20 per person. A bit expensive for a tour, but oh well. Then you get there and find out the tour is $5, so they charged 8 people a total of $120 for a ride back and forth. Left a really bad taste in my mouth. And no pint glass. A crappy low quality koozie.
Midnight Sun Brewing Company
Pleasure Town IPA-very refreshing
Sockeye Red IPA-good but not as good as the PT
Baranoff Pale Ale-on draft by the water. Good but not fantastic
Skagway Brewing Company
Great little brewpub that does their own thing. Tried a flight of five beers and a pint of each of the
Chilkoot Trail IPA-one of the best IPAs I've had
Spruce Tip Ale-their signature beer. Unique. Loved it.
Spinnakers Brewpub-Victoria BC
We had a flight of beer and a flight of ciders. All their own stuff. Don't recall the names, but it is worth going to if you are ever there.
Canoe-Victoria
Same thing. Did a flight of their stuff.
Harbor Public House-Bainbridge Island, WA
Hale's Supergoose IPA-my first cask offering. I'd have to get used to the lack of carbonation. Good flavor
Tieton Yakima Dry Hopped Cider-very nice
Seattle Cider Company-Basil Mint Cider-fantastic
Capitol Cider-Seattle
Wow! An intro to ciders as had on this trip. We did a flight of Snowdrift Cider Company and a flight of Quince Ciders as well as a 2Towns Peach Saison Cider. Amazing stuff.
I also had a Blue Mountain Cherry Cider paired with a pour of El Dorado 12 year old rum and it was absolutely amazing.
Rogue-Portland Airport
Nice little place in the airport. Had an IPA and the chocolate stout. The stout was so good we brought two bombers home. Very disappointed. Wasn't nearly as good from the bottle.

Thanks for the list. We get some of those beers in Portland, but not all of them. There are some that I need to check and see if we get them.
I've had the Azzaca PA, and agree, it's really good. I hope we start getting Skagway.
Rogue has some hits, but even more misses. They do brew some good stouts, and their recent hop series beers have been pretty good, IMO. Sometimes it seems that the try to live up to their "Rogue" nickname, that they forget that they need to brewing good beer, not different/weird beer.
If in the Portland Airport in the future, try Laurelwood, as well. The brew solid beers.
Better beer to be found outside the airport, though...

I'd never been to Portland, and just from the airport and the airplane, I really want to go back. It looks like a very cool place.
