I know it's a knock off of the BGE, but does it compare?

Any tips or tricks?

Mine just made two years old. I have cooked items both at low temps and high temps. It cooks really well once you get the hang of it. I have had trouble getting it to maintain a low temp (225) for a extended period, but it will maintain 275 or so. I have gotten it really hot really easy for pizza and rib eyes, they always came out great. Oh and if you get it, buy another temp gauge, they are know to be inaccurate.

I love mine too and agree with all that you said

I didn't know if the low temp thing was just me. I did get some high temp sealant to seal up the bottom a little better around the vent at the suggestion of youtube.

For what I paid (~230) I couldn't be happier and I've had mine for about 2 years.

I've had it up to 850 degrees but I've also cooked brisket and pork low and slow.

Eta: thanks for the anonymous downvote!

I've had one for almost a year and it's great. I just cooked a pork butt on it Saturday. I agree with the others that it's hard to maintain a low temp sometimes but I know there are a lot of modifications that will help...I just haven't bothered trying them yet.

I will say that the Akorn can cook anything from low & slow to searing hot. In fact, I got mine so hot one time I almost melted the plastic cap on top. So with that being said, I would definitely recommend the Akorn.

I've had mine for a year. I too had trouble maintaining low temps until I put an old grate where the diffuser is supposed to go, then placed a metal bowl full of hot water on it. This keeps the food moist and the temperature low.
I just bought a Maverick 732 and the temp was actually 15-20 degrees higher than what the Akorn temperature gauge was showing.

Love my Acorn. I grill at least 4 nights a week on it. 3 years old now. One thing actually better than BGE, other than cost, is its lighter and more mobile.

Only pain in the arse is getting access to the fire if I'm doing a long cook and didn't put enough charcoal

Love mine.

As far as long cooks just load it up on charcoal. I've cooked many briskets up to 16 hrs @ 230-250 without adding any charcoal. Adding wood while smoking is a pain though if you have a big brisket or butt on.
