it's Lake Verret and the canals off of Verret b/c there is no bank, of course some places are built lower to water level and they will see water

Unfortunately this is the category we fall under..Now I am hearing reports that they will cut off power and sewage?!

2-4 foot will not effect a lot of peope in PP, the bay road will get effected along with parts of Shell Beach. Stephensville will see water simply b/c they have no levee systems. Belle River can handle the backwater suggesting, it's Lake Verret and the canals off of Verret b/c there is no bank, of course some places are built lower to water level and they will see water
we shot elevation grades the other day. As I stated we are at the required building height for a 100 yr flood (5'). We are on belle river. Anything over 2.5' rise from the water level this past weened will put water in our place. There sure are a lot of experts on this topic... I wonder if they have the resources that we've used readily available to them. Im not saying everything down there will flood. Just stating that WE are built according to code and WE are most likely going to flood. I would imagine the majority of people down there are built to code.

Fwiw, Stephensville is lower than us.

And a lot of this area is subject to flood every year when the Atchafalaya rises

Good luck to everyone. I'm hoping for the best... Preparing for the worst.

Pierre Part flooding is a non-event unless you happen to live there. NOLA or BR flooding is an international event.

If Baton Rouge or NOLA would flood, of course it would be a bigger news story. But for you to say Pierre Part flooding is a "non-event" is asinine.

yeh I know. As i said. We are expecting 2-4' (probably bt 3-4') rise on top of the river stage (1.88 at belle river bridge). You can use that and a tape measure and figure out what level your place will be flood....
they will cut off power for safety reasons and lack of access incase of emergency.

We originally thought we would ok.... Not the case now. It is what it is. You can only try to save as much as you can and hope for the best. Good luck

Oh and you know some dumb coonasses will be kneeboarding or something during the height of the flood

Eta: Oh and there is a meeting in stephensville today to disclose all the plans and how the events are going to pan out. Not sure what time... My neighbor is attending to let everyone know what's up. Of course, everything up to now is speculation and is only projected if everything works perfectly... Which we all know isn't always the case

We're off of HWY 997 at the end of the split, think they call it Old River?? Should we be seriously worried? I told the in-laws only to expect 2-3 feet, but seeing Sportsmans posts has me worried

idk. You would have to shoot elevation grades. You may be at 6' above sea level and your neighbor at 4.5'. You could be safe. He could be fricked. That's kinda how it's going to be (I think)

Eta: we MAY only get 2-3' and I'm praying it's more around the 2' stage. I'm ready to go trout fishing this summer.. (since we missed last year bc of oil spill) Not rebuild a damn house

I would imagine y'all would flood... Unless ur like 8' tall.. Then you might have a chance

There is a ton of low lying swamp in this area.... 2-4' rise is A LOT of water...

Although this is a bad event... Fishing in lake verrett and belle river will benefit from this tremendously... There is a bright side after we do whatever work we have to do afterward

When the Archafalaya River rises fast, the belle river/lake verrett system floods (or gets high) in this case, the river will actually be backing up through bayou chene (they are sinking a barge to try to prevent this) into lake palourde (through Amelia) and into verrett and belle river.

Sorry, I still don't get it. Lake Palourde and Lake Verrett and Belle River are all on the East side of the Atchafalaya levee. How do those areas rise? Where does the Atchafalaya Levee end?

Through Bayou Chene, then Bayou Beouf, into Lake Poulorde, then Stephensville, Lake Verett, Pierre Part..Belle River

We have a camp down shell beach road at lake verret and have already moved 90% of our stuff out. Since we have a boat we were asked to help out with any rescue missions that may occur. Our camp is about 4 ft off the ground so we are borderline.
