I take quite a lot of pictures, but I've done anything with photo editing. I'd like to take a class using photoshop in the NOLA area. Does anyone know of any classes that are offered in NOLA? Also, I'm looking to purchase the software and I'm not sure what I'll need as a beginner. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

I'm not familiar with any classes in the NOLA area but as far as software, one thing I really like is Lightroom because you can organize photos easily and can make global edits (overall contrast, tone, saturation, etc.). Then I take photos into Photoshop CS6 for specific edits that I want to apply to them. I think Photoshop uses a creative cloud now where you pay a monthly fee for it but I am not sure. You'll also find there's a million plug-ins that you can look into for specific things as well and you end up having to kind of choose the type of things you like to do.
Shortened version is I highly recommend Lightroom and I end up using Photoshop on a lot of shots. I haven't tried GIMP so I am not sure how it compares but it's free so there's always that.
If I could only have one program to start though, it'd be Lightroom.
I'm sure others have different advice/opinions as well.

You can use the Adobe Creative Cloud for about 9 bucks a month. I think if you provide a student ID from any school you get a discount. You still need to download the Photoshop software from Adobe but the creative cloud gives you the license.
Just Google Photoshop tutorials and you will find everything you ever wanted to know. Most are you tube videos that give you step by step examples. Its a great way to learn and its free.

Gimp works pretty good... if we are talking major edits like adding things and some effects to the photo.
If you're just trying to make a good photo look great
use Corel Photo Video Suite X6

Not sure if they have them in NOLA, but Leisure Learning puts on a some pretty good classes for beginners all the way up to advanced (an assortment of other classes are offered there as well).
If you're looking to become a professional, I'd take a few hours per day and start messing around with the program - you'll get the hang of it. Good luck

Cant help with classes but for software I've used Corel Paintshop Pro x4 for everything I've made so far.
Cost me under $100 and works great. I'm not a photographer but a lot of it's features seem more geared towards photography as well so that may be a plus for you.
It's pretty easy to get the hang of just by playing around with it. It can't make gifs though if that's what you want to do.

I do the Adobe creative cloud. I would suggest trying Kelbyone for training. You can do a month free trial and see if you like it, ton of classes on photoshop that have helped me to at least be dangerous with it.
