im ready to start rookie farkin and was wondering if there is anywhere you can download gimp or its equivalent or some better software for free

Make the link "clickable"?
When you're posting, look on the right of the textbox and there should be 6 buttons with "link","img","b","i","u","quote"
Link allows you to input a url and then type in the clickable(blue) text. img allows you to add an image directly into your post. B is bold. I is italics. u is underline. quote allows you to put some text into your post as indented and quoted. e.g.
