I've had nothing but problems with Windows DVD maker! Is this worth a try for a beginner?

I just bought an HD camcorder and I'm trying to get into some video editing and DVD burning. Mostly just for home movies and such.

Just get a Mac laptop. Great video editing stuff built into it. Go check one out in the store... Best Buy has a good display of Macs you can play with.

I've used windows movie maker the past 2 years primarily because I am cheap and I only do minor video editing so it is not a priority what software I use. But with that being said I know nothing about Nero Multimedia Suite 10 except I see that it is relatively cheap.
Now if you want to spend some money and get good software then go with Adobe. I've seen what people have created in their spare time and have been greatly impressed with the quality of video and smoothness between clip transitions.
Lastly, Mac does have good software also but thats going to cost you some serious cheese when you can get a better product for much much less

VD maker to burn a DVD and I have no sound! So I read somewhere that it's a codec issue. Downloaded the codec that was supposed to fix the problem.... Doesnt work. So I found another solution. Downloaded another program that converts the videos to other formats. Converted them to VOB files. Burned a DVD and it worked great! Only thing was the video size was slightly smaller. Figured out that it was a setting that I had to tweak when I converted it. Converted it again and it fixed the size problem. Burned another DVD... Worked great!
Converted some other videos from the same camera in order to make another DVD and it keeps giving me an error. Now every time I start to burn a DVD, It gets about halfway through then I get the error that "Windows DVD maker cannot create the DVD". Even if I try to burn the same exact thing that was successful the first time.

I have no answer. I haven't tried burning any of my videos so I cannot help there. I have had to download codecs in the past and had trouble with it. See if you can find any solutions on google because if it is happening to you it probably has happened before for someone else. Definitely do some digging on Nero and Adobe Premiere and see what option is suitable

I burn movies using Free Studio...you can convert a video clip to whatever a DVD needs and then burn, pretty simple, free and good quality on what I have watched

They make one hell of a nice looking under-powered laptop...For the cost of a MacBook you can custom build a laptop that will destroy it. As for the software, just get a torrent client and help yourself to the free software that is floating around on the internet.

As for the software, since you did not pay double what your laptop is worth, you'll be able to afford some tools that far outperform the things that come standard on a Mac.
