Is there a good program that is free (for a MAC) to smooth the transition out, a bit ?

not sure what you're using but (and I'm still a beginner at this so take it with a grain of salt) if you used more frames it would make the animation smoother

Not exactly.

But the problem isn't really the program itself.
It's that you've essentially got a 5 frame gif with frame durations of 1/4th to 1/2 second.

By cutting the motion frame times to 1/10th sec, adding one more frame midway on the rise and another as the head is going back down, you get a smoother effect.
