Just downloaded GIMP.. Question about a tutorial???

I went to the classic Fark thread to figure out how you guys make the Farks.
The GIMP program was recommended so i downloaded it. It is very similar to photoshop pro.
But any how i read where somebody on here said that they learned their farking skills with GIMP through a tutorial.
I cant find any kind of tutorial with what i downloaded..
Any help would be appreciated. I am pretty creative and i think that i could contribute some quality stuff to this board. Just need to learn to operate the GIMP system.

goto Youtube and type in gimp 2.6 tutorial
