How do you use gimp with a Mac?

I have a macbook and I just downloaded gimp. How do you get pictures from i-photo onto gimp. It doesn't find them by browsing and it wont drop the picture when i drag it in.

I wish I could help you but I have no idea about gimp. If that doesn't work you can sometimes find on ebay a photo shop 7.0 for around $20 to $50 for mac.
