First, you need to grab the file from Youtube. Youtube downloader and converter is a good, free tool available on download.com
For making a gif out of the video file, you will need a GIF tool. I use GIF Animator 5.0.
Most likely you will need to convert the file you downloaded from youtube into a format that your gif tool can import. The Youtube downloader tool I mentioned above can actually do this for you.

Been trying a "bookmarklet" from Dirpy. Works great.

Sometimes use my Pinnacle Studio movie editing software.
