So my son is 13 and is getting into edits and and also wants to learn photography and video editing. He currently uses Canva and has been making game day promotions for his junior high football games. What would be the next step for him to learn. Photoshop or something similar?
Would appreciate some advice on what he should learn next.

The whole Adobe software suite caters to these interests, however that is alot of different software to try to learn at one time. He might should pick one he is most passionate about and start with that.
Graphics Design (like creating his game day promotions) - Photoshop would be a good place to start, followed by Illustrator
Photography - Get a camera that has capability of shooting in RAW format and learn Adobe Lightroom for post processing his photos.
Videography - Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing, followed by Adobe After Effects for creating special effects.
All of these have endless free info on YouTube to begin learning. I'm self taught in all of them and still learning. If there's something specific i'm trying to do and don't know how, I just search on Google and YouTube and can usually figure it out.

If he is doing work for print purposes, the artwork needs to be done in Illustrator. Print work in InDesign. They create vector that can be resized without distortion.
