Font Editor?

I was looking around on Google and was not able to find a font editor that seemed legit, they all seemed sketchy. With this great community of graphic artists, does anyone have a font editing program that they have used successfully?
I have a .ttf that I would like to edit the shapes of a few of the characters.
Thanks in advance!

I believe you can edit fonts in Inksscape.

Inksscape wasn't able to open the .ttf files, any other programs?

This isn't easy stuff. Text is stored as a vector files. Inscape cannot directly open a TFF file. But you should be able to put a TFF in your Windows Fonts file. Open a new file in Inscape. Use the text to type a letter you want to edit. Then convert the text to a path, edit it and save it as SVG. You're probably going to have to do it for every letter. There are ways to convert SVG to TFF. But again, this is not easy and I don't have any programs that can do this directly.
