May be you should Goo.... kidding.
If you've downloaded any freeware or shareware recently, there was probably some toolbar application piggybacking on it. If you can't change the search engine using the dropdown by the search window on the top right of your toolbar, right-click on the toolbar itself and uncheck the search window manually. Now go to Add/Remove Programs on Control Panel and get rid of all your toolbars (including Google). Afterwards, run Disk Cleanup (in Accessories on your Start Menu). Reboot and install the most recent Google Search program (that way all your helpful usage-tracker toolbars don't fight over who's the default).
