Nice job of blacking that guy up! You use GIMP don't you? What steps are you taking to do this? I have always struggled with changing peoples color and matching flesh tones.

I can almost gaurantee you that they use a variety of Filters. There is just so many of them that you just have to mess around for a long arse time until you find the ones that fit what you are trying to do. Would be nice to know which ones they are using though.

Brightness-Contrast under tools is your best
friend when it comes to skin tones
please excuse the sloppy printscreens as i did it in a rush but here is a brief tutorial
1. Paste in the source picture and name it as it's own layer
2. Stretch and Skew until it is properly place (sometimes I paint over the background layer to remove something like in this case the red hair)
3. Use the selection tool to select the areas of skin on the background you want to edit
3a. to select multiple areas (this is necessary so when you change the brightness-contrast it will be identical on the neck and the arm) you simple select one area and hold down shift as you select another area
4. use the 'brightness-contrast' option found in tools to change the skin tone
5. Select the Jefferson Layer, then also use the 'brightness-conntrast' tool on the face (i find that you need to alter them both to meet in the middle as far as skin tone)

Thanks for the tutorial I will play around with the technique when I get back from work later this evening. NC_Tigah needs to add this to his tutorial section on the top of the board.
I took the liberty of mentioning the tutorial on the help board hope you don't mind.
