Me, too.

We don't count PPR.

I have gone back and forth. Was worried McCarthy would not run Zeke at the goal line, a trait associated with McCarthy in Green Bay. On NFL total access, James Jones said McCarthy would run if he had a workhorse back (which Zeke is) and cited Eddie Lacy as his example.

Barkley is in his third year and his team is improving. Jones will be better. Barkley should be better and he's already awesome.

I think either way, if the player you select stays healthy, you're gonna get a steady stream of heavy workload and points from your second pick. When you're picking at second, health is the main concern--almost never a bust for any other reason.

Conclusion: you probably can't go wrong.

Thanks. Zeke is probably the safer of the two. I'm a bit skeptical about Saquon since I drafted him #1 last year when my gut was saying, "go with McCaffrey".

Barkley did what he did last year on one leg.

Barkley.

I think Barley has more upside. He is a way more talented back and will command a larger part of the offense. Cowboys have a lot of mouths to feed this year.

That's hard to believe, but ok.

Heard a similar assessment of Barkley vs. Zeke on The Fantasy Footballers Podcast. Thx!

Same thing happened in our league. It was unbelievable. He shouldn’t get past the 2nd pick.

Think you go Barkley. What's interesting for 2 at the turn is you have a decision to take Mahomes or Jackson. Having the top 2 RB and QB is an interesting problem to have and would give you a serious advantage at two key spots. You'll still see a WR1 there like Godwin, Golladay, Moore, Evans, maybe Hopkins. And the depth coming back at 4-7 at WR is phenomenal this year.

I don't like the RBs coming back for you. You're looking at risky options like Gurley, David Johnson, (Was Fournette), Carson. Seen people reach there for Taylor in a very competitive draft this week.

I'd go Barkley, then get either Mahomes or Jackson personally if they're there (competitive leagues let them drop, but home town type leagues might snap them up earlier), then take the best available at the 3rd.

Thanks for the feedback. I've actually been running some mock drafts with Barkley (1) and Mahomes/Jackson (2). I can get a decent RB2 like Carson, but my WRs options kind of suck (A.J. Green or Terry McLaurin were my WR1).

The "hometown" effect (Houston) might not affect me for Mahomes/Jackson, but the guys in my league typically make weird first round selections (Tom Brady and Amendola have gone in the 1st round in previous years )

That said, I'm probably now leaning more Barkley, Mahomes/Jackson than the typical RB,RB/WR for the 1st 2 picks.

This will be an FWIW, but here's a screen print from our "Great White Shark" league on Fantasy Sharks. This is the top league on the site with tens of thousands of followers. (Made it back for a second time in 14 years, so yeah for me.) Just finished the slow draft yesterday.

But here's the point..These guys are the MOST competitive players you'll face. They RAN the RBs far quicker than I was expecting and I was expecting "RB Heavy" in the first 2 rounds. But you can see by the 4th, all gone. Take that into consideration with your league mates and draft.

Joined in 2004. Format wise, there are better sites for research (I use Fantasypros and Football Guys), but I pay each year there as well because I love the leagues and the forums. Highly competitive. I'm in 3 leagues on that site and have been for years. The Shark leagues you work your way up. The others are community leagues.

Thanks for posting this, Nole Man. Very interesting.

I'm also picking second. Have pretty much set on Barkley. And if I can get Godwin in the second and Gordon in the third, I'll take it. Was hoping that somehow Ekeler or Jones would fall that far, though I'm sure it's wishful thinking.

Any thoughts of taking either Mahomes or Jackson at 2/3 if available?

My vote would be Mahomes because they have such a high powered offense, defending champs, more weapons, not as reliant on the run etc.

Tough call though. I got to watch Jackson play twice when they played us in college. Shredded up. He's a generational talent. Just always more skeptical of QBs that are more reliant on their legs to produce. Eventually it catches up with them.

The mantra is always "wait for QB". There's not much difference between 1 and 12. And that's true on average.

But..

I'd take either in the early 3rd all day long and figure out the RB2 situation later on. It just feels good watching them put up 40+ points some days. And having fun is what it's pretty much all about.

Thanks. I think that I will be good after a possible Barkley pick at #2. As mentioned earlier, my league mates tend to do "crazy stuff" in the first round. I would not be surprised if both Mahomes and Jackson go in the 1st. Which means getting Josh Jacobs, Davante Adams, or Mixon might be in play for pick number 2 (and possible 3). Getting 3 Tier 1 guys would be nice.
