that's awesome that your life gives you the opportunity to tune politics out. that the things happening everywhere else simply doesn't affect you. it doesn't affect me (personally) as much either, but i care about what happens to people less fortunate than me.

Live your life. That's how you can impact other people. That is the only real way to do it. Telling people what they should believe only drives a wedge. Humble yourself and consider that you aren't always right. Don't pick one side or the other, because you will ultimately "stand" for things that you normally wouldn't. "Hey I believe in gay rights! That means I don't like Christians and love muslims!"

lol the further you dive in, the more hypocritical you become.

Back to hoops.

ETA that isn't directed at you, just in general. Everyone wants to tell people how they should think instead of simply living their lives. Bunch of sheep repeating garbage.

i respect the way you live by example and have really found our political conversations super constructive big A.

as for social, i have a weird thing where i have super diverse and often diametrically opposed groups from all over the globe. it's quite often that they don't understand each other. the times i speak out most is when i feel like rhetoric has been misframed or that there's a particular cause where the dialogue is getting muddied.

it'd be really nice for people to start communicating again. my liberal friends don't understand the number of wonderful hardworking good time having smart rational pragmatic people in red states. my conservative friends don't understand the real life problems that the liberals are railing against not just in theory, but in their own lives and the people close to them.

anyway, back to basketball...

one thing i noticed last night during the cavs celts game. the celtics are MUCH more athletic/explosive than the cavs. that's different.

I treat everyone the same way cops do during mardi gras. If you're not hurting someone or pissing on my street I have no problem with you

on a side note, does anyone else think it's weird that the OT lite is always framed coveting some dude's girl? _____ wife, fiancee', gf?

i know it's supposed to be "sports-related" but can we just cut the bullshite? it's super weird. "LOOK AT WHO DIS DUDE GETS TO SEX!"

The majority of posters here are hard legs. Any time an average looking chick posts on the OT she's treated like Princess Diana.

Hey and I'm not hating. But in the same breath, BJL has his. They are just social rather then religious. I think everyone has room to become more tolerable of other people's views, whether it be religious political or social. I don't think all hope is lost but that's just me

if it was just posting maybe. but the number of conversations I've had based on things happening in the world today that were started because of Facebook have been innumerable and invaluable. I had a cousin email me out of the blue and tell me how and why he voted, and how often it was out of fear rather than hope. I've had people change their stances on BLM. I've had vegans soften their views on carnivores and vice versa. I've had friends learn about what really happened during Katrina.

contact is what you make of it. also, it helps that most of my friends online aren't just people I went to HS with, but are people I've met and had some sort of connection with.

I go out of my way to try to encourage participation from the smart people I meet in the world. I think it makes it a better place.
