Asik is the new Noah. Over 11 boards in every preseason game with a few double doubles and blocks.

oh yeah he was on my radar. i went for the young big though, who i think is the next biedrins (with an 80% FT rate)

i'll say he's the new camby, though

something like 6/12/2 per

He is offensively more skilled than both of those guys. I was hoping he would slide to me in the 6th but once the rookie run started I knew he would be gone.

the night before i made that pick i was praying boozer (who was 45 last year) would slide to me

then he did, and i was looking at the 2 and rolled the dice. when love comes back i won't need the scoring difference, and i think the boards/FG impact will be similar. jonas has a much better shot to put up more blocks, and his FTs will be a huge edge

if he plays as aggressively in attacking the rim as he's done so far (and has been advertised to do), then he may get 4-5 FTA per. if he's hitting at a 78-82% clip, that's going to be great for a center

then i read this article and was sold. he doesn't have the flaws most euro young guys do

quote:

Let's get this out of the way right now: Jonas Valanciunas loves the game of basketball. Not in the love-it-because-I'm tall-and-this-is-what-I'm-going-to-do kind of way. He loves it in the because-it's-all-I-do-because-all-I-want-to-do-is-win-and-all-I-want-to-be-is-the-best kind of way.

"In my blood," is how Valanciunas explained his passion for the game while pointing to his heart beating below his practice uniform. "I was really young … I came to the basketball practice. Since that time, I've been in love with basketball."

quote:

Asked what he likes to do when he's not playing basketball, he paused, said, "video games," and then continued, "I don't know. Everything about basketball. Basketball is my passion, my life. I spend so much time on the court, a lot of time on the court. I don't have too much free time; I'd rather be on the court."

quote:

"I want to be me," Valanciunas said. "I want to be Jonas and I want to have a great career in the NBA. That's my dream and I want to make my dream come true."

He also wants NBA fans to know one thing.

"I really love basketball. That's about it."

I was really hoping he would make it to me. Dude average a block a game in 14 mins last year. His offense has looked better in the preseason too.

I was really impressed with him during the Olympics. He would have went #2 in the draft this year pretty easily.

I almost took Asik when I took Duncan in the 3rd but I didn't want to take back to back Rockets. Seems like this draft had more quality big men than in years past.
