re: TDBBL 2018 league thread

i wasn't against you. i just said, once we started we shouldn't stop. even if you were going to filibuster. i'll go with whatever we vote on, but it should not be just a foregone conclusion that we just toss them back just because the site... etc.
we set the rookie draft without voting/agreeing on a date.
and now we're setting the add/drop date without voting/agreeing on a date.
this isn't fair, and should be discussed. in the old TDBBL league, we had a keeper date closer to the season opener. there was rampant speculation about who was going to be tossed back into the pool. all we're discussing is who and when we're tossing back the back end of the roster. it was fun.
in every real league you're allowed to carry over the limit until you decide who you're going to drop. you bring 22 people to camp, then you drop down to 15.
i think this league should be the same. it will give us time. break up the offseason in fun ways. give us more players to have stake in during the run up to the season, and create a fun add/drop deadline.
this should be voted on. my proposed final pared down roster date: October 6. one week into exhibition season.

Is this true? I've only been in a football dynasty and we drafted right after the draft and you had to cut guys if you wanted the rookies. It appears tdba runs that way too.
Making tough decisions is part of what makes a dynasty fun. It makes sense to wait as long as possible in season long but any draft/cut date is arbitrary in a dynasty.
So you cut somebody and a trade/signing/injury happens that increases their value. Go bid on them, I think probably 90% of our faab budget went unspent last year, it's a good thing if we have more action on the wire.

For keeper leagues, yea. This is a dynasty.

if the motion doesn't pass that's fine. but just deciding isn't the way this league has worked before.
First, you haven't even made a proposal. You said we should allow players to stay on the roster until the season starts. You didn't think out how this would work. I do all of the behind the scenes shite in this league and several others, so I know that your "idea" doesn't work unless:
A. We temporarily expand rosters, then make cuts, then change roster limits (which is something you cannot change after the draft is finalized) once preseason is over, October 6th which is like half of presason, or
B. We don't add the rookies we just drafted to the rosters intill Oct 6th, and in their place keep candidates to be cut (whose rankings start at 238 - 17th round and later). Then we manually track any rookie who is traded for the rest of the offseason.
If you are just trading rookie for rookies, that's one thing. We are talking potential deals involving rookies, current players, future draft picks etc. All of that so you don't have to decide which round 17-18 type player will be dropped and never heard from again.
Before you attempt to accuse me of anything (and focus on the rest of what I said before you comment on this) understand that I am thinking about this as someone who has experience running a league. Having a rookie draft and then adding those players days after the draft is over is realistic. Your proposal, or really idea, isn't. Don't take it the wrong way.

With all due respect karma, i defer to port here.
Question.. at what point will we be able to add/drop from the wire? How would that work from now to season tip?

Once the league rolls over it goes to FAAB.

i'm not accusing you commish. i just think that there are ways that this league is operating that are acted as if they are givens when they really should be decisions.
and i said i wanted to propose a vote. you said, no. and hence why i started arguing. i get to propose things to a vote. that's how these things have worked in the past.
what is so hard about B? wouldn't that be the same as if we had the rookie draft on october 6?
what's so hard about just keeping the rookies separate? i have my roster AND kevin knox. we can just make a rule that no one can officially add their drafted rookies to the roster until the deadline. You have your roster AND your pool of rookies, which are separate right now. we already have the bookkeeping. we know who selected whom. all we're debating is WHEN they get officially added to the team.
if someone has someone they want to trade for a rookie, just trade them. nothing is different. you can send/assign gordon hayward to another team or any one you want. bamba is yours and won't be added. what does it matter?
just keep the rookies separate until _________ amount of time.
and yes, some of us have people we don't want to drop just yet. nor should we have to, just because of some arbitrary decision. no one said we HAD to draft rookies this early. and now no one is saying we HAVE to drop our rosters slots.
all i'm saying is that this deserves a vote.

right. and if it's arbitrary it means we can assign it to any day we want.
no one voted on the draft date. we just started despite the protests of a few owners.
and now no one is voting on the release date.
i think the the release date should be voted on. that's all.
if all of you want to vote release the players the second the site is up, i'm fine with that. i'm not fine with just, "That's how you do it".

Release date is when the site comes back up with the rooks in the pool to be added to your squad.
Posted on 7/19/18 at 8:06 pm to 21JumpStreet
but it doesn't have to be.
i want to propose a vote changing the release date.

I'm for dropping players when the league resets and rookies are available.
Posted on 7/19/18 at 8:34 pm to MattyV
I vote for picking up rookies and dropping people as soon as possible. We have rosters of 20+, no need to have a temporary taxi squad in case a guy looks like he’ll play 20 minutes a night instead of 15 after a few good preseason scrimmages

no shite....I have no issue dropping some a-hole like ed davis
I know everyone has an ed davis.
