FSBDL Mid Season Farm Rankings

Used a composite ranking from multiple lists and gave teams a prospect score using 4 tiers.

1. Papz – (J.P. Crawford 4, Tyler Glasnow 7, Aaron Nola 13, Manuel Margot 33, Brett Phillips 34, Jose Peraza 39, Ketel Marte 59, A.J. Reed 71)

Nola will be graduating from these lists soon, but for now he still gets to highlight papz’s 6 prospects in the top 50. Crawford is a consensus top 5 among scouts and looks like an OBP machine. Glasnow is just unhittable. Margot and Phillips represent future top and middle of the order bats. He’s going to need them because his team is old as frick even after trading Phillips.

2. Swamie- (Corey Seager 1, Alex Reyes 12, Jose De Leon 20, Dalton Pompey 38, Austin Meadows 40, Josh Bell 43, Taylor Guerrieri 64, Clint Coulter 84)

There’s a lot of pieces here to really upgrade this team. Seager can make an immediate impact. Reyes and De Leon are filthy but still have a lot to prove. If Meadows can find his power stroke, he’ll be a star. For now, his bat is consistent enough to play in a lineup. Bell needs to be more consistent to play 1B and his defense really needs to improve.

3. RollDatRoll – (Daniel Norris 9, Michael Conforto 14, Orlando Arcia 15, Gleybar Torres 25, Alex Meyer 86)

The two teams ahead of Roll in these rankings can’t even boast of having 4 top 25 prospects, yet I still can’t help to feel unimpressed with this group. Norris is all stuff over command, Conforto is rocketing up these lists but I still can’t find anyone who thinks he’s a legit power bat, and Arcia was more known for his glove before he started finding is stroke this year in AA, though I’d take him over Segura right now. And Gleybar is up this high thanks to ceiling projections from BA and Sickles.

4. Earl – (Lucas Giolito 2, Joey Gallo 5, Jeff Hoffman 36, Raimel Tapia 50, Grant Holmes 52)

The man with the five-year plan! Would have easily been #1 before Sano and Russell were called up. Earl desperately needs Giolito to be the ace everyone predicts him to be. Hoffman came back from TJ surgery throwing flames, struggled a bit, but is on the fast track for the Jays. Those two can possibly anchor his rotation. We’ve seen the power Gallo brings as well the K%. Tapia is said to have the best swing mechanics in the minors and Holmes was the 2nd best SP prospect for LAD before De Leon emerged. Earl has a ton of potential in the future, but I see a lot of holes he still needs to fill. Of course he’ll get to start early on filling those holes with the top pick in the draft.

5. OMT – (Julio Urias 3, Kyle Schwarber 6, Trea Turner 18, Brent Honeywell 60)

I love his top 3 prospect. Scouts say Urias can fill a roll in MLB at 18, Schwarber can mash and Turner will fill out SS for him next year and should hit right away. His bats should be stacked for a long time.

6. Cwill – (Rafael Devers 10, Nomar Mazara 11, Jake Thompson 31, Jesse Winkler 46, Amir Garrett 83)

Devers might be the real deal at 18…Mazara maybe a little overrated. He shot up the rankings as a 20 year old in AA displaying power and might be falling back to earth in July. I still believe he will be an above average corner OF. Winkler is rebounding after a terrible start. Amir Garrett, who played in the Futures Game can shoot up these rankings.

7. Knat – (Jose Berrios 16, Tim Anderson 27, Billy McKinney 41, Derek Fisher 85)

Berrios is having a rough transition to AAA in his first couple starts but still misses a lot of bats. Mid-rotation guy, which fits in perfectly with his current staff. I like McKinney a lot more than Anderson

8. Barry – (Aaron Judge 17, Bradley Zimmer 19, Tyler Kolek 61, Tyler Beede 77)

By the time Cruz’s power is finally dimming, barry will be restocking the power in his OF with Judge and then some pop/speed combo with Zimmer.

9. CQQ – (Mark Appel 30, Raul Mondesi 32, Joe Ross 35, Josh Hader 78, Sean Manaea 79)

Look at all this pitching! The guy the Astros passed on Kris Bryant for had a great June that made people remember him, and has had a rough start in AAA, but the stuff is still there for him to click. Joe Ross looked great in his 3 MLB starts. Manaea is creating a lot of buzz with his 10.7 K/9 through 2 seasons of pro ball.

10. Chat – (Robert Stephenson 22, Franklin Barreto 23)

Even after trading Josh Bell, Chat has two top 25 prospects to keep him in the top 10. Stephenson has the potential to dominate, but command is a big issue for him. 7 walks in one game this year? That’s Nuke LaLoosh shite there.

11. DJ30 – (Ozzie Albies 24, Reynaldo Lopez 44, Gavin Cecchini 80)

Albies is young and undersized but he’s crushing the ball with 27 XBH (the long ball won’t be part of his game) and showing speed on the bases right now in A ball. But him and Lopez, won’t be helping his team anytime soon, and if Lopez does it might be in the bullpen, but it’s not like he really needs arms anyway, amirite?

12. TTT – (Willy Adames 29, Ryan McMahon 45, Alex Jackson 57)
13. MWG – (Blake Snell 28, Dom Smith 67, Harold Ramirez 70, Amed Rosario 76)
14. Rondo – (Jon Gray 42, Henry Owens 47, Alen Hanson 72, Rob Kaminsky 75)
15. Boo – (Luis Severino 21, Stephen Piscotty 55, Frank Montas 74)
16. Clams – (David Dahl 26, Brandon Nimmo 58, Brandon Shipley 63)
17. Gyno – (Sean Newcomb 37, Aaron Blair 53, Anthony Alford 66)

I decided to group these guys because I couldn’t get excited to write individually about their farm systems. The highest ranked player in this group, Severino is probably a bullpen arm. Dahl suffered another injury and hasn’t put together a strong year. Snell is having a breakout year showing a live arm and command. Everyone else can be classified as high upside (Alford), young guys with great profiles and high ceilings (Adames), and a former top prospect making their way through some adjustments (Gray).

18. Redd – (Nick Williams 49, Hunter Harvey 62, Clint Frazier 81)

I really like Nick Williams and he should have been a tier higher but he didn’t make BA or Law’s top 50. Those who are ranking him have him in the top 30 with 70 raw power.

19. Deebz – (Jorge Alfaro 54, Nick Gordon 69)

Alfaro has been out with an injury so we’ll have to wait to see the raw power develop. Gordon is young with upside. The cupboard is bare, but he’s more worried about the playoffs this year.

20. LE – (Brian Johnson 56, Daniel Robertson 65)

Brian Johnson is making his MLB debut this week. Robertson can be league average. Despite only two prospects making lists, LE has other young talent like Bradley, Tucker, Kang and Castro. Gonsalves is someone to keep an eye on. I don’t think it’s enough to compete with anytime soon, but I’m interested in how he will continue to build around Harper and Fernandez.

I think you would have been 3rd before the trades, not counting Buxton.

Traded a lot of talent, but I still like a lot of the long-term potential my guys have -- Snell was electric again tonight, tho it is Double-A

Law just said in his chat he'd take Rosario's bat over Mondesi's.

teenage A-Rod has plenty of time to make these lists, but I see Owens has finally started turning things around.

Can't miss bats anymore.

Pitches are shockingly flat and straight.

Blake Snell can miss bats

To teams in rebuild, he's available -- most likely would like to pair with one of my current MLB bats for upgrades. I can take on old players. And most of my MLB bats are vets under 30, so no need to wait on them.

quote:

Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Fewer pitching prospects in baseball have enjoyed as rapid an ascension as Snell has this season. After closing 2014 on a high note with Low-A Bowling Green, the 22-year-old left-hander has stormed through the Florida State and Southern leagues this season, producing a 9-2 record, 1.20 ERA, and a 106:40 K:BB ratio across 89.2 innings at High-A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery. He figures to meet a little more resistance at his next stop in Durham, but even with some slight decline in his results, Snell should put himself in the conversation for a rotation spot with the big club in 2016.

Wonder how many pitchers went ahead of Greinke in our draft

Him and Richards. I still probably take Wacha over Greinke just because of dynasty, but I hate myself for the Betances over Richards.

A bball game was just set to tip-off and I didn't want to slow down the draft, so went with a "safe pick". Didn't know an ace was still on the board

Great value on both selections for you.
