Let's talk about how good (or bad) this guy can be.

With Josh Gordon out, he was essentially a starter in a Browns offense that is clearly not afraid to take shots.

I think he is a good option to fill in on bye weeks. I've got Kupp, Beckham and Jarvis ahead of him, but just added him this week.

We run a FAAB waiver wire. I added him as an FA and dropped a backup QB.

I think he has a nice game this week, and is going to cost money next week.

I picked him up also.

Callaway is now officially a starter.

I'd start this pair with Kupp and leave Callaway on the bench. Your problem is that Callaway is not going to solve your week when Jarvis is on bye.

I'm only starting Callaway as a bye-week replacement unless T. Taylor turns into Peyton Manning, Jr. mid-season.

If it wasn't for the TD catch he'd have 2 catches on 5 targets for 39 yards through two games and no one would be talking about him.

True. But with the loss of Josh Gordon, he moves that much closer to playing a very valuable role in the Browns offense. They like him, they want to get him involved. He's a stud waiting to happen in my book.

If you take away Barkley 65 yard td run, he has 40 yards on 24 carries

Yep... I went with about 35% FAAB to acquire Callaway in my leagues. He’s very talented and I’m confident that part of the reason Gordon was traded was because they believe in Callaway. Gordon and Jarvis were both drafted as starting WRs. I don’t think Calllaway can be considered Gordon’s upside equal, but he’s got serious upside going forward. He’s riding my bench in all leagues, but I’ll be ready when they get him more involved.

You spent 35% of your yearly FAAB on him?

16 man roster or higher in my leagues. 12 team leagues. $1200 total dollars available. If you skimp you’re missing out all year long. I’ll spend on guys I believe will contribute.

What was the next highest bid?

ETA: I got him in free agency today for nothing. My league is a 12team .5ppr with 15 man rosters, so we're not far off. Just curious as to why you thought you had to bid so high to get him this early

I think he'll end up worth that price a couple weeks down the road, but I think you could've saved 25% of your FAAB (or more) for a big injury.

When I listen to podcasts or look at expert articles on their suggested bid amount, it never wins. Essentially the top waiver wire guy is going for 30%+ each week. Every year each team is gonna spend their full or close to full amount, so there’s a lot of faab money getting spent. Of the available guys in these leagues I figured he had a lot of upside. I’m in MFL leagues, we can’t see what the second highest bid was. I know I didn’t over bid by much considering some of the group message talk.

Doesn't it tell you the next highest bid after the fact? I'm a big proponent of overspending rather than under on FAAB, but 35% seems really high.

It may be too much for casual leagues. Like I said if everyone in the league is spending their budget, and you have expanded benches then it’s not really an overspend. My roster is pretty full with no easy drops so the rest of my budget won’t get touched until late season most likely.
