the founding fathers didn’t create a popular election
They also were from 13 separate colonies who had never shared a common government and were electively giving power up.
they weren’t a unified nation that has existed for 200 years.
They created a pretty great system of government but things change.

Because Democrats don't like majority voting if it doesn't go their way. Just go look at California gay marriage vote a few years ago. Didn't like the results, got a judge to over rule the election

no one likes it when a vote doesn’t go their way. and I dont think everything should be up for a popular vote. President should be though
but an electoral college doesn’t protect individual liberties.
it doesn’t even protect small states.
it’s not even a surefire win for democrats.
its literally just an old method that predates even the concept of a popular election.
