We all judge Head Coaches.

They have many roles and responsibilities.

What are the areas to assess a Head Coach? And, what are the relative importances of these areas? How would you rate the areas?

I suggest the following areas, and a relative ranking of the areas. (Of course, they are ALL important).

1) Program/Cultural Fit
2) Recruiting Players - The Jimmy's and the Jeaux's.
3) Staff Management - Recruiting Coordinators/Staff, Managing and Coordinating the Coaching Staff.
4) Program Management - Overall Communication, Player Management/Discipline, Cache/Power in media interaction.
5) Pre-Game Coaching/Coordination - Scouting Opponent,Scheming, What-Iffing, Managing Practice, etc..
6) Player Motivation/Inspiration/Discipline
7) In-Game Coaching/Coordination-of-Coordinators, Over-ruling Calls when appropriate,Adjustments to plan/opponent, Time Management.
8) Results - Wins and Losses. Looking good. Beating who you are supposed to beat.

What is missing?
How is this in relative importance?
General Opinions?

Folks always pipe-in on how the Head Coach is doing. Just trying to see what the components are.

Thanks.

Casual fans despite what they say just look at wins and losses most of the time. Id say the diehard fans of the sport look at alot of these things you mentioned...but that number is probably only 10ish percent. Then there are those who look at only a couple of the measures you presented.
One thing i look for is attention to detail, whether its the technique at a position they teach (all access videos show this on occasion) or how few dumb penalties their teams commit. Also how articulate they are, do they have a vision thats forward thinking, and most importantly, can they think quick on the fly.

No, but the lack of engagement on what I deem central to a college football site (always includes HC scrutinizing/assessing/lauding) is shocking. It's got a lot of moving pieces,so assessing it as such seems appropriate, but guess not to many. Oh well.

I still would enjoy on-point commentary to see what people think are the full set, and relative importance,of HC evaluating factors.
