When do you expect cuts to be made?

I was looking at the 2013 offseason calendar and we are less than a month away from free agency starting. March 9th we can start negotiating with free agents and on the 12th free agency opens. We all know we have a lot of maneuvering to do with the cap. I figure our late DC hiring has to put a little delay on our defensive cuts which I expect most of those moves to be made. I'm curious to see when you all think the first wave of cuts come through and who you expect to be the first major one. I'm itching for some saints news to come down the pipeline.

first major one will be Will Smith, unless he takes a major paycut.

I don't expect us to be players in FA unless we make some pretty big cuts, bigger than we already have to just to get under the salary cap.
You can almost guarantee Vilma and Smith are gone, they would clear up 14-16 mil alone

After Ryan/SP reviews defensive tape of games. I'm guessing they will cut Greer, Vilma,Smith and Shanle from defense. On offense

Greer isnt going anywhere IMO, he played hurt all last year and besides that, they need depth at that position.
bye bye Smith, Vilma, Harper, Shanle, McBride, Ellis, Humber, Herring, Roby, Devery, and possibly Hartley... we def resigning Galette

Whenever I get around to it! Jeez, get off my back!
ETA: I mean whenever Loomis gets around to it. Obviously Loomis, not me. I'm not Loomis. Although I hear he is a really smart and good looking guy.

Yeah i have a bad feeling about PT, i think hes the heart and sould of that offense besides Drew. There was just something about the Saints not playing him much at the end of last year. Hopefully they wanted to prevent him from getting hurt. I really dont wanna see him get cut.

1. Sedrick Ellis and Scott Shanle are free agents. Their contracts have expired, so they can only be re-signed.
2. Will Smith and Devery Henderson are the only two cuts I'd consider definite. I think Vilma will be given a year in the system to see where he fits, because while his play has declined, he is still one of the smartest defenders in the league.
3. As for Pierre Thomas, I'll be really upset if we move or cut him as he's one of my all-time favorite Saints and a very underrated back. With that said, I do understand it's a business and I'd at least expect us to try and trade him for a pick or two.

Yeah I would like to see Pierre plowing down the side lines off a screen pass forever, but like you guys said, its business. The saints are going to put winning first. If we can improve the defense by freeing up funds, then that's what theyll do.
If it would be me, I would keep pierre and get smith's lazy arse out. Vilma needs to go also with this new defense. and Please get Harper out of here.

Smith is gone that is like 7.7 million freed in cap space. Cutting Vilma frees up 6 million in cap space. Then it starts to get a little tricky. The next easiest way to free up money is Roman Harper who if cut could free up 3.6 million. That only frees up 17.3 million.
Other easy money free ups are:
Malcom Jenkins about 2.5 Million
Pierre Thomas about 2.5 million
Zack Strief 2.3 million
Dave Thomas 1.7 million
Will Herring 1.6 million
We are in pretty rough shape as far as the cap goes.

That only frees up 17.3 million.

No ones going to cut Pierre, I would say he's a value at this point, if the FO doesn't feel that way, they'll trade him and get Smith Nguyen in return.
