I remember my grandfather. He was a veteran of World War Ii and Korea. In his later years he ran a gunsmithing business out of his workshop at home. The flag flew outside his home and when the National Anthem was played he was the first on his feet even at 90 years old. He loved his country, family, church, and local community. He voted every time there was an opportunity. He died in October 2008. As much as I miss him I am glad that he didn't have to see what is happening in the country he loved so much. To see the US taken over by socialism, the NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem, loss of free speech, threats to our Second amendment rights, etc would have hurt too much. On this day I thank every one of you who has served our country and I pray for the families of those who gave their lives for the cause of freedom. I pray that each of you will be blessed today.

Well said! Your grandfather was a patriot, for sure...and you are correct, he would be ashamed of how this country has descended into the hell that we are now living.
I am an army veteran, 1974-76, and I feel that our time given to this country was all in vain and not really appreciated by this current administration and most Democrats, today!
God Bless!

My grandfather was a sergeant who was among those who stormed Omaha Beach. He came home and started a career and a family. He passed away in 93.

I have an 18 wheeler wooden truck that he made for me when I was a boy. It was a cool gift then and I thanked him and played with it. Then it was put away in a box and stored in my parents’ attic where it remained for years. I have it on a shelf in my house now.

I look at it now and I am flooded with the love he had for me. I almost tear up. I think about him spending hours in his workshop making it with his hands. Cutting the wood, sanding the wood, whittling the wood, making the wheels perfectly smooth and round, screwing the hardware and the hinges for the doors, drilling the holes, threading the wiring for the lights, twisting the wire to make antennae, cutting metal to make the exhaust pipes, etching the inscriptions with a wood burner.

It is a precious gift of love.

God on high, hear my prayer, bless my grandfather and take me into thy embrace and show me grace.

These are some of the best post I've seen on TD in a long time. It makes me reflect on plenty.

Blessings to you and your loved ones. The memories that we honor and cherish are a reminder of why we struggle to keep the freedoms that our lives ones fought and gave their lives for.

Sure.

I’m in the process of moving right now. Give me a couple days and I will post it.
