I don’t follow nfl very closely so help me understand. Is this just a product of good teams playing each other?

Sean Payton is an idiot.

Teams usually play better defense in the playoffs than regular season it seems

Good defenses + Conservative coaching due to the magnitude of the game = Low scoring games.

Let defenders play a lot more aggressively than usual. It’s kryptonite for the saints.

Payton's play calling has been fricking abysmal.

Kamara has barely been utilized, Thomas is back and he's not being featured, etc.

It has nothing to do with physical play.

It’s actually refreshing. Watching 45-34 games has gotten old.

Lot easier to blame play calling than realizing your team just isn’t built to win anything meaningful in today’s nfl

What?

The Saints are at their best when they commit to running the ball. See the game against Minnesota on Christmas Day. Payton isn't doing that today despite Kamara having over 5 ypc.

Are you stupid or something?

Aka, refs swallow the frick out of their whistle. Kind of like the NBA playoffs.

There's only been one penalty during the play in this game so far (D holding on NO).

Everything else has been pre-snap or those unsportsmanlike penalties after the play.

(There was the roughing the punter and penalty on the running OOB, but those offset)

In the regular season the refs and NFL do everything possible to maximize points because it’s seen as more exciting than a defensive slug fest. Come playoff time, everyone is tuning in anyways so the refs actually let the defense play.

They don't call the obvious ones either.
