Chances are he’s in a county jail which is where people are housed pending trial/plea. You don’t get to state DOC until then. County jails in most areas are much less crowded and thus inmate interaction is much less. There are exceptions obviously such are huge metro areas.

He's a 17 year old BOY who acted in self defense.

This makes me very sad that the justice system would do this to him.
