SKI Trip

Planning a "winter vacation" for the first time with a 13, 10, 8 & 6 year old. Where would you recommend, what are some do's and dont's? Pretty much open to anything, definitely want to tube, ride snow machines, SKI and any other must do's with kids.

When's the trip? The reason I ask is we went to Purgatory a few years ago for Christmas. The Polar Express in Durango was great.

Ski trips definitely vary based on budget.
Are you flying or driving? Flights are much cheaper from Houston to Denver than they are to Salt Lake or other popular ski destinations.
Driving you are better to Colorado and New Mexico.
Definitely put the kids in ski school if this is your first time and the budget allows. With 6 people total you may do better with a private instructor for the whole family.
If you plan early, you can get passes that allow for 4 days of skiing as a season pass holder for exceptional discounts. If you buy in the summer they might be $250-$300/4 days vs. $125/day at the gate. Season pass holders get discounts for food, gifts, etc at most places.
We went this past February with a group from Louisiana called Hal's Pals to Angelfire, NM. It is a group of 40-50 families that all go to Angelfire the same week of Mardi Gras. There are live concerts and events every day during the week exclusive for that group. It was really fun to be around other Louisiana people. The group gets some great rates on lodging, rentals, and lift tickets.
Another of my favorites is Winter Park, CO. It is very budget friendly and I really enjoyed the skiing there.
Breckenridge, Copper, Vail, are all AWESOME but they definitely cost a little more. I have never been to Utah.
