Solid new AV receiver from Yamaha

I posted a comment about this in another thread but since there was a receiver (2 channel) recommendation thread today, I thought I'd share my experience with a brand new AV receiver from Yamaha.

Yamaha is just rolling out two new AV receivers, the RX-V4A ($439.00) and the RX-V6A ($599.00). The V6A has 7.2 surround, zone 2, dedicated phono input, all the cinema, wifi and streaming tech, and will have 8k video capability when that is available, and 100 watts per channel. My Yamaha RX-A2000 recently fried itself and so I've been looking for a replacement. This receiver, at about a third of what I paid for my old one, has everything I actually used on my old one plus all the modern decoding and pass-through.

However, the real bang for the buck is a Costco only version of the RX-V6A, which is labeled as the TSR-700 (different number but identical to the RX-V6A). I went to Costco in Lafayette last night and picked up up a TSR-700 for $399.00, which is extremely reasonable.

It's a really good piece of hardware, but the setup required a lot of manual adjusting. One difficulty is that these things no longer ship with a full manual. You have to go online to read the manual, which is required to properly set up speakers and zone 2.

After about two hours of research and work I got the thing working properly in my main 5.1 surround and zone 2, which is out back by the pool. It has plenty of power for my use and sounds great. The newer Yamaha Music Cast app took some getting used to, but it works well.

This review isn't for the folks who have already heavily invested in high end hardware. However, if you have a good set of 8 ohm speakers and are looking to update an AV receiver for video, gaming and streaming, this is a fantastic dollar for feature product, especially the Costco version.
