The recent thread on the Movie board sparked my interest in this book. And Stephen King recently praised it as well. Holy crap, what a tense book. Opinions?

What do you think happened to Eleanor? Was it all in her head? Was she possessed? All in all, a good read before Halloween.

I’ve read through the book several times. It’s not entirely clear. I think she was always crazy and susceptible to the house. No doubt there were some manifestations (i.e. the dogs and the front door, the loud banging, the coldness and giggles), so it wasn’t all in her head imo.
It’s also not entirely clear whether she died either.

It has been many years since I have read it, but I thought she became one with the house? I could also be getting the endings of the '99 movie or the tv series mixed up in my head. I remember loving the book though.
Guess I need to revisit it soon. I'm realizing I genuinely don't remember it now

Doesn’t she take off in the car and wreck? I also don’t recall the demeanors of the Doctor, the psychic lady, or other 2 guests. We’re they reacting I the house, or not?
