Just picked up this - not a bad song on it ! I wasn't real familiar with his stuff from Mudcrutch, but it is excellent.

He was an awesome songwriter.

You mean to tell me that a greatest hits package from a mega-selling artist with a decades-long career has good songs on it? Just trying to wrap my head around this.

Agreed. Top notch compilation.

His "The Live Anthology" cannot be recommended enough. It's live tracks from several eras strung together to run like one show. Splended stuff.

I've got that one as well and it is great.

Good call OP. I bought the vinyls last week. Great recordings of Petty’s hits.

Last Christmas my son gave me “An American Treasure.” A bit pricy, but if you’re a Petty fan it’s a great set of his songs, some not included on albums or alternate versions of songs that were. Liner notes cover each recording and offer an intimate insight into why they were written/chosen for albums.
