The topic is pretty on point. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Glad to hear that. Currently reading the first book in the Edmund Morris trilogy and it's a bit of a bore to be honest.

I will watch this topic, the National Park system is one of the few things, in my uneducated opinion, that the Federal government SEEMS to do properly.
I am interested.
Path Between the Seas by David McCullough, about the building of the Panama Canal does a solid treatment of President Roosevelt. However, it is not on the subject you're seeking.

That Wild Country - Mark Kenyon touches on it a lot. Very enjoyable book.

Pick up a copy of Last Stand by Michael Punke. It is a fantastic book that describes the rise of the American model of conservation and many of the big groups like Boone and Crockett, the rise of National Parks, and TR’s influence.
It tells the story of the efforts to save the last of the American Bison and the general awakening that took place by hunters and outdoorsman. I really can’t recommend this book enough. Punke also wrote The Revenant if you need more incentive.
