Have two young kids and want to head to a lake to swim, fish, canoe, etc. for a long weekend this summer. Any recommendations that have rentals on the lake and good water that’s safe for the kids to swim in?

Big Lake is great. Go to our VRBO in Old Settlement in Big Lake. Your family will love the lake. Reasonably priced.

How clean is that water and would you swim in it?

I wouldn't swim in Big Lake....but hey, maybe you're more adventurous. I would swim in Toledo Bend, though.

I think the nicer swimming and boating lakes are in N. Louisiana. If I were looking at going to a Lake in Louisiana, I'd probably choose between Lake D'Arbonne, Lake Claiborne, and Lake Bruin.
