Does anyone have any idea when normal passport operations will resume? Mrs Jkyle sent hers in around April 1 but it's not letting her check the status until "normal passport operations resume " .. it says "expect delays of several months "... Supposed to be driving up from Seattle to Whistler BC on July 11th. Are we screwed on this ? Any other alternatives on getting back and forth across the Canadian border other than passport ? Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

You may be able to get into Canada with a Real ID driver's license. LINK

I'd call a travel company and/or the Canadian border agency to verify.

I'm not sure if a REAL ID and an Enhanced Drivers License are the same thing. I'm really hoping her passport gets to us in time but it's not looking promising right now. I see there is a passport center in new Orleans that can issue a passport book same day if you present all the required documents. Not sure what a pain in the arse that is. Has to be done within one week of your trip. Idk.

Called Canadian customs today . Apparently the REAL IDs are no good. Only Enhanced Drivers Licenses from bordering states work .. was told if we don't have a passport we can't get in Canada. I guess we'll have to cross our fingers that it gets back in time or we'll have to change our plans to something state side.

Looks like they are only processing passport applications or renewals right now for emergency situations.

Anyone else expect several months of delays if you applied on or after March 19.

I sent mine in on 2/28. I talked to a guy on the phone and he said they have absolutely no idea what “significant delays” mean... not even a ballpark (2 months? 6 months? A year?). He said they usually have 300 people processing passports (when it takes 2 months) and now have 20 working. The feds haven’t been made to return to the offices so it will last as long as they are not working in the passport processing centers

Aw man, this sucks. I have a rescheduled trip to Europe in December (was supposed to leave March 15 this year). My passport expires in November.

FYI the ban on non-essential border crossing between the US and Canada has been extended to June 21. That is getting awfully close to your July 11th date.

Yeah teddy I saw that. I don't think we're gonna get her passport back in time anyways. We decided to get a cabin outside Port Angeles and visit Olympic national park for 3 days and then gonna spend a couple nights in San Juan islands instead. I think it'll be a fun trip still.

I went to Seattle last year and those are things I wanted to do and couldn't and still had a good time.

So losing Canada on this trip isn't a big deal IMO with what you replaced it with.

BTW I did do Wallace Falls which was a good not crazy hike. Eat at Vick's Burger Shack in Sultan if you do that one.

I didn't get to do these either, but Diablo Lake Vista Point and Rainy Pass Trailhead look like easy short but really pretty views.

Thanks teddy. Trying to find a good place for some white water rafting. Def wanna do some trail running and mountain biking also. Got a whale watching tour lined up for San Juan. I've never been to that part of the country.
