Anyone deal with a H/O claim involving mold mitigation?

So, as mentioned in another thread, I’m in the middle of a homeowners claim due to a supply line to my fridge failing. The leak basically migrated between two layers of subfloor, and didn’t manifest until it wicked into one of the base cabinets and we noticed it.

The field adjuster came out and noted there was some mold (duh, it’s Louisiana and shite was wet). The problem is now the insurance company is requiring a mold hygienist’s report before they will satisfy the claim and of course I have a $5K mold limitation attached to my policy. My guess is the testing alone is going to magically end up eating well into the limit, then I’ll be stuck eating the remediation cost to the satisfaction of the insurance company.

Has anyone else dealt with this? I’m of the opinion that I’d like to just rip the shite out myself and let the mitigation team come in and remediate, but I frankly don’t know if I’ll catch hell getting the claim settled if I do...

it’s not that expensive. Usually they will give recommendations in the report as well. Sooner is better. Delaying the work is going to cost significantly more than what it will cost to have it tested.

Ask the ins co if they would pay the mold co bill as a claim expense rather than an indemnity payment. Then it would not go against your 5k limit.
