A couple of my buddies and I are going to Memphis this weekend to play at Mirimichi. Does anyone know the conditions currently and could you offer any insight?

Does JT still own it?

I think I read he sold it a while back.

I played it last July.
It was a nice course. Some great views.
Greens were average-good and the course was well maintained.
It didn't blow me away for the price.

We played Wedgewood, Kirkwood, and CHerokee Valley last weekend and they are all better value than Mirimichi in my opinion. Similar (and better) conditions but half the price.

Kirkwood and Mirimichi are within $5 of each other. (Unless your playing twilight at Kirkwood). In fact if you use that Golf booking app Mirimichi will be cheaper.

Mirimichi is like $59 and Kirkwood is $52ish after tax, but Mirimichi includes the range in that while Kirkwood does not.

Mirimichis green are pretty good but slower than some that I’ve played. I haven’t played Kirkwood since they punched greens about a 2 months ago so I can’t comment on them currently, but they usually roll true and are fast.

All the other areas are a little better maintained at Mirimichi (cleaner lines between fairway and rough, definitely T boxes, etc ).

However, Kirkwood is more challenging and each hole seems to have character, with the exception of a short par 3 on the back which is probably the most uneventful hole I’ve ever played.

Also of note, Mirimichi has a full bar and kitchen to get something to eat if that’s important to you. Kirkwood does not. Also Kirkwood does not have cart girls. Mirimichi does.

Also, I’ve played wedge wood once and hated it. Greens are nice but the rest of the course is a whole lot of meh. Fairways suck and it’s just flat everywhere. No elevation changes and generally pretty short (at least it felt like it, a lot of long irons off the T). It’s a classic let’s put an 18 hole course on not enough land. Again, nice green though.

The amenities are definitely better at Mirimichi.

I think we paid $49 for Mirimichi last year... Kirkwood was $32. (both were our Friday afternoon twilight round).

I like value courses...
Wedgewood's greens are excellent and I think the layout is fine. Some straight holes, some doglegs, etc. I don't think it's really that short being 6800 yds from the back tees.

I would say overall the best "value" that we played in the area was Cherokee Valley. Similar conditions and amenities to Mirimichi but a little cheaper.

FYI: Wedgewood had the best cart girl of the weekend for us. Cherokee Valley wasn't too bad.

Mirimichi is a nice track...it was better when JT renovated it and they had more money flowing through the place. It's seen better days than it is currently but still a decent value. I haven't played Cherokee in a while but used to love it. I'd play the Navy Base course - Glen Eagle - if you have some time. Pretty damn good track and it's really reasonably priced. Its close to Mirimichi.

Memphis is kind of barren when it comes to public golf courses. You could always hit Mallard Pointe in Sardis on the way up. I haven't played there in a couple of years but it used to be really solid and like $35-40.
