Planning a trip now and was researching going to the sun road. Noticed it closes in October/November usually due to weather.

Anyone familiar with the area and have any insight into how/when it usually closes? Looking up average snowfall in October and doesn’t seem to be much in oct.

I live in the area and will tell you that the road does close around October, of course pending wildfires it could be sooner. This year the roads crew is closing the road from west in September to finish their scheduled road work but should have it reopened before October (as long as everything goes according to plan). Each year varies but it all depends on weather. Logan Pass is most vulnerable to snow because of its location. Best bet is to just not worry about the road and come anyway if you are dead set on coming. It does get quite chilly in October so if you live in the south I would bring layers.

As for the road, if it is closed many of us locals do fall biking so you could enjoy that if you are unable to drive it.

Also, if the road is closed to the pass in October it will definitely be open to Avalanche from west until normally December. The park usually keeps the road open from east to Jackson Glacier til November.

We were there in October a few years ago and the Going-to-the-sun road was closed for road construction/repairs. Made getting a one side of the park to the other a pain. They work on the roads after Labor day and try to get in as much repair work as possible before the snows hit.
