This book has been recommended elsewhere on Tiger Droppings, and I read it and found it interesting enough that I've bought it so I can share it with friends.
Along with some of Paul Theroux's books about his life in that part of the world-from a perspective of several decades- I have pictures in my mind of the world there.
Today we got the DVD "Volatile Earth" from the library. A recent NOVA release, it's from that part of the world, and now I have images of the towns and countryside in vivid color. If you've no interest in volcanoes, I think you'd still enjoy seeing the modern world there and it will give you an additional perspective into reading about those countries,

Great book. Just finished it. Scary how fast Rhodesia/Zimbabwe went to shite.
