So I finally invested in some quality glass and bought a pair of Leica Geovid R 10x42 binoculars. Super pumped about upping my optics game.

Now I need to outfit myself with the accessory to fully utilize my noc'ers. I've got 3 pieces in mind:

Bino harness
Tripod
Window Mount

For the harness, I've zeroed in on the FHF Gear Bino Harness Pro-M ($120).

For the tripod I'm leaning towards the Vortex Optics PRO-GT Tripod ($150). It comes equipped with a pan head and quick release plate.

And for the window mount, I'll use the Vortex Car Window Mount ($50) and slap a Manfratto Quick Release adapter on it for easier mounting.

For all of these I'll need an Outdoorsman Ring Adapter 42mm ($110).

The Geovid R noc'ers don't have a traditional stud hole for a more normal tripod adapter so the ring adapter is the best option I hope in lieu of the universal strap type bino adapter that Leica makes.

All that to ask: does the OB have any other products they'd recommend instead of (or in addition to) what I've come down to?

I would love a more compact and lighter weight tripod (the Pro GT folds down to 24.5" and weighs over 4lbs) but it seems like I have to make a pretty significant price jump (>$700) to get a lighter or more compact tripod that maintains the strength and stability of the Vortex Pro GT.

I've also considered other harnesses but keep coming back to the FHF. My main concern with most of this stuff is I can't hold it in my hand to compare before ordering it.

Anywho, thanks in advance for your usual wealth of insight.

Live in Oklahoma currently and am in the beginning stages of planning a backcountry elk hunt with my brother.

The binos and harness will get used all the time for turkey and deer (they have built in rangefinding which is awesome in most of my hunting situations).

I also do environmental survey work some for my job and dabble with photography so being able to glass and photograph from a tripod and from the truck are great. So the tripod and window mount are multi purpose.

Congrats on the fine glass. They’ll greatly enhance your outdoor experience.
I’ve used a monopod for 15x glass and it was great. I don’t see much use in a tripod for 10x, but maybe it’ll work for you.

Fair enough. Down the road I'll probably invest in a spotting scope and in the mean time I have use for it for photography regardless.

I've had about a 50/50 split on tripods for noc'ers. Some say they wouldn't leave the truck without it in the mountains and open western country, while some have told me it is unnecessary and to use a monopod or bipod instead that doubles as a shooting rest. Kind of torn between the two. I'm a novice when it comes to truly glassing for hours for game so I don't really know which way to go.

Most important factor for glassing hours on end is quality glass. You got that. Borrow a tripod and see if you like using it.

I'd love to, just don't have anyone local I could borrow from. I've got an old camera tripd I can probably rig to work with the noc'ers. Maybe that's what I'll do.
