If you want to automate the mail, you should do what one of the rich guys put in back in my hometown. One of those modified bank tube things to suck that thing to his house.
If I'm going to go that far, I'd probably make the whole mailbox a robot that can slide down the post and navigate to the house. But then I'd probably frick something up and end up chasing that fricker all around the neighborhood.

He doesn't check it because he doesn't have a sensor for it.
He needs a sensor that tells him he's got email so his sonos can play "you've got mail".

The wait was no problem. I just wanted to make sure it didn’t get delivered to the wrong house in my neighborhood, (which supposedly happens quite often). I certainly do not mind paying you for the sensor. If you refuse to take payment, I’ll at least pay it forward. Also, big shout out to McTiger for offering to go out of his way to contact you.

if one was reaaaally clever you could find my old TD username the same way. i learned my lesson using that ID everywhere. i asked the admins to kill that account back in 2007 or so when i was going through a nasty divorce. i didn't think anything i said on here was that bad but i was super paranoid back then.
