After a disappointing performance at Missouri, theres been a very pissed off attitude for everyone. They know they have yet to put a complete meet together this season. The story for LSU this year is they put up 2 or 3 ridiculously strong rotations then have a lapse that derails the overall team score. Some of LSU's issues are mental at this point. The skills and talent is there without question. DD was extremely blunt after the meet last Friday. These performances weren't acceptable and will not come close to winning a national title. There are some clear difference and objectives this week in practice

Vault

LSU knows they will need at least 4 or 5 10.0 vaults to really have a chance for a national title this year. Edwards, Edney, hambrick at the moment have been the only ones with 1 1/2's at competition. Priessman has worked on some 1 1/2s and has looked very controlled. The staff has been extremely conservative early on but this could be different soon. In order to feel comfortable with it, we would like to see her compete it for at least 4 or 5 meets so there is some consistency. Edwards needs to start to find her landing. Its a fantastic vault but she overthinks it too much and has resulted in under rotations. Ruby is a priority as of now on this event. The block off the table in practice looks much better as of late. I expect her to return to the lineup this week. She adds a 10.0 vault LSU desperately needs. Sarah continues to train a 1 1/2 as well. Form and rotation are not issues. Like I have said over the last few weeks. The sticks arent there quite yet. LSU has two meets in 3 days this weekend. LSU might try to experiment on vault.

Bars

Its been pretty consistent and steady at this rotation. LSU didn't have their best meet last week on bars. Not bad at all but its been better. All season 5 of the 6 routines have been excellent with inconsistencies at the #3 spot. Ruby was rested last week since she has been off. She has focused on training and cleaning stuff up. Ruby will be back this weekend on bars for sure. I would also expect to see Kirby in one of the meets. Erin and Dean continue to train this event. Erin has a lot of work and its not competition ready. Dean for the most part has had nice sets that are clean. With LSU's inconsistencies in the 3rd spot LSU likely will audition that 3rd spot again this weekend.

Beam

There is now a new voice on this event. DD is back over here and now has her hand in it, with gnat not as hands on. Its mental at this point. Beam is an event you can only be successful if you are mentally prepared. There are some different combinations Campbell is working on. The leap connection out of the back tuck has been the killer all season. There hasnt been consistency with it. Campbell clearly is a top beam worker on this team but just needs to put it all together. Every meet there is a miscue at one point but then the rest of her routine is flawless. Leap series is a priority for Desiderio. She showed some nerves last week. I would expect to see difference this week with DD back on this rotation

Floor

LSU hit it out the park last week and we are starting to see what this event can really be. Desiderio needs to make major changes and try to find a way to be more conditioned over the next month, she has to. Lexie Priessman and Desiderio are the two who LSU expects to be on floor come post season. Priessman was rested last Friday but will be back this weekend. I would expect to see Desiderio again on floor this weekend, she needs reps. At this point I wouldn't mind taking the lumps with her because she could be the difference for LSU come post season. I really think they need to alter Edwards last pass, the salto one. I think this is where she continues to be deducted. She has improved all year and has been a major contributor on floor. I think once she cleans a couple details up, she is a 9.9 scorer.

There will be some drastic surprises fans will see this weekend between LSU's two meets. So we will keep an eye out.

I’m so excited for this weekend! I may finally attend a meet at the PMAC. I wanted to go to the MG meet in Missouri but I have to work late Friday. I’ve made sure I’m off for SECs tho. Will you get to go to SECs this year?

Does LSU host Regionals this season or next? Next season is very exciting because it is a 2 day event with eliminations.

We are going this weekend for the first time. It’s general admission correct? What’s best area to sit? We will be bringing my 5 yr old godchild. Any way we can get her to take pics with the team?

It was supposed to be next year, but that’s when the new format starts and only 4 teams host instead of six. I don’t know if LSU has found out if they made the cut. They should imo...we haven’t hosted in several years.

This is what is still listed on the NCAA website. So I don't know if they've made a determination who is going to remain in those Regional sites or if they just have not updated it

Where is Li? She is the biggest mystery on this team. I mean LSU even had on her bio that she would be competing on beam in her senior year.

Is Dean still having back issues? She looked so great on beam in the pre-season videos.

I think LSU has had a fall on beam in every meet so far this season. It's incredible that six meets in was the first time we had to count a fall. Overall, I'm a little disappointed considering that beam could be our best event, and it was said all pre-season it's where we had the most depth. DD has certainly worked her magic on floor, so hopefully she can get back to beam and fix those issues.

I'm praying to the gym Gods that Ruby can get it together. It's very clear that even though her bar set doesn't bring in the big scores, it's still a routine that is very much needed along with her vault.

Pretty sure early on violation of team rules. Still she should be fine now. She still trains and is a phenomenal beam worker

Some aches but nothing major. Everyone usually has an ache somewhere but its part of this sport. Dean is an excellent beam worker. I am honestly surprised DD hasn't tried her out yet. Between bars beam. It feels like DD is afraid to overload with all these freshman.

When LSU hits to full potential, beam is probably our best or one of our better events. We just haven't had a complete meet on this apparatus. We do have a lot of depth. Li and Dean are excellent on this event. Cannamela can be decent but she is all nerves usually. Kirby can hit but needs to work on consistency. There will be some major changes on beam. gnat essentially ran it all season and preseason

The dismount is just way too inconsistent. Ruby is always deducted on her pirouette and that last handstand before the dismount.

Combine it all Ruby is lucky to reach a 9.9. Its not like elite where you can use difficulty to haul in a major score. But Ruby is a difference maker on vault and can add more points on the team score

That's supposed to be a handstand? I've seen the gymternet say that she is over scored religiously. I don't really care if it's an over score or not. We just need her back.

Ruby has never been someone that has beautiful execution at the elite level. What separated her was her ability to do some of the most difficult skills in the world with decent execution.

Issue is in college, its all about the execution. The release from high to low bars if fine, probably the part of the routine that is actually always flawless. Its when she is back at the high bar is where we see deductions. Sometimes she loses the toe point, slight bent in arms. I've mentioned obviously the separation. I think Ruby will be fine on bars.

You should see her 1 1/2 before LSU, it was absolutely atrocious form. Its way better at LSU. Bob really fixed it and its actually a 1000x better. Now once she fixes the block off the table, she will provide excellent scores for us. Even if she provides a 9.85 on bars, thats not a bad score just to have in our pockets.

I really wish Durante would be a little more down the lineup. I feel like she would receive a better score. First people up usually are screwed a bit

I forgot about trimming down Regionals to 4 sites next year. I think LSU should still be in the running based on the fact that they routinely put 13,000 people in the stands. That alone should move them to the top, only Utah and Georgia put more in the stands I would think.

Not so sure about Georgia tbh; I attended regionals there the year we didn’t qualify for Nationals, 2011 I think, and it was only 2/3 full at best. They do seem excited about the coaching change though, so that might increase attendance. Regardless LSU is long overdue to host imo.

I honestly wish they would do it by seed for hosts. Regardless of location.

UCLA
UF
OU
LSU
utah

All of these teams should host, besides OU, everyone fills up the stands. Plus these teams earn the right to host

I get it but the same schools would be hosting every year and it heavily favors those schools who get ridiculous home scoring like Florida and UCLA. Gives them even more reason to have insane scores every home meet to pad their ranking and ensure they host Regionals. Plus, I don't know if those schools want to host every single year. There has to be a lot of cost and logistics that go along with that.

To be fair there is already a tremendous gap anyways. Usually there is a top 5 or 6 teams then a pretty major drop off after. It would take multiple falls for upsets to happen.

I know LSU would love to hold regionals every year if it could

But no doubt its a lot of money. Its not a dual meet, it has more teams to account for etc.
