Ballantyne Golf Club is probably the nicest publicly accessible course in the area.

Other good courses in the area (within and hour of downtown Charlotte) I've played:
Olde Sycamore
Emerald Lakes
Red Bridge
Rocky River
Verdict Ridge
Charlotte National
Eagle Chase
Fort Mill Golf Club
Monroe CC
Tega Cay
Carolina Lakes
Waterford Golf Club

One other one you could add down in Lancaster county is the Edgewater Golf Club. Its off the beaten path, but is a great course for the money.

I'm in Charlotte as well.

Here is a good resource I used when I moved here.

This Website gives ratings, updates and course conditions of many of the public courses in the Charlotte area.

Thanks! I don't mean to pry too much, but are you a member at any of those clubs?

I'm leaning toward Cedarwood, but I would have to drive past Carmel each time I go there. And of course, I can always just continue to play the public courses...

This is a tougher decision than I thought it would be!
