what's the closest physical address to those camps..so I can find it on a map and look up those historic ones as well

I don't know anything about the Frost/Livingston abandoned train, but there are definitely several abandoned passenger cars on a siding off of what used to be the Illinois Central rail line from Covington to Slidell. It is now the St. Tammany Trace bike trail.

The pilings still exist where they cross the river. I'd be interested to see if their is lumber dumped on the bottom of the river there.
The line today is still visible because it is used as power line run

The lack of air to the trees in the swamp is the limiting factor that causes the cypress/gum tree association of the Maurepaus swamp to grow so slow. Therefore, even after a hundred years has passed, the crown cover is still thin. You can see this driving down the highway to New Orleans that the trees are small. By using sterotype photographs (two of the same photos side by side viewed through a steroscope lens), would bring that swamp to 3D. Something as big as a RR car should stand out. From the black and white aerials submitted, the RR car may even stand out using just a magnifying glass. Also, early Tobin maps of the 40's and 50's show the location of the old tram lines in the Sections.

The structures are definitely modern..especially the left side where there was nothing until the 1980s.
Looks like the right side building(s) changed a bit too depending on the water and shore line...

I was duck hunting with a friend's uncle. We got there by airboat. I doubt very seriously you could walk to it, but maybe, I never stepped out of the boat to see if it was hard ground. Everything around us seemed about 1' deep or so. He showed me after the hunt and I was completely turned around as to exactly where we were. I can ask my friend if his uncle knows the GPS cooordinates or general area on a map. Let me know.

Be careful; around those, there's one located to the southwest of the RR at Ruddock near the washout,I know because I fell into it. It was nothing but clear water but aftercare I got out I notice old RR pilings. I was told it was and old well that had collapsed.

It was years ago that I was there.

I called my friend and he said his uncle had passed. He doesn't know how to get there, either.

That was an awkward phone call. I don't think it's a big secret or anything. I'm sure lots of people know where it is. Good luck.

Found a lot of information about the Garyvile Northern. The Engine located in Ponchatoula on display was the main Engine for Garyville Northern, sadly it is near scrap condition.
A group there was telling me of efforts to preserve it which include painting the outside. It's rusting from the inside and the tinder car has holes so big that you can stand on one side and see cars passing on the street behind it. Several people from the Louisiana Steam Train Association also said they were turned away when they asked about it being donated to them to try and restore it. The last known train from the Lyons Cypress/ Garyville Northern going to the crapper and it really has little historical connection to Ponchatoula.

the rail car being mentioned is still in the swamp and currently if the water is to high you cannot see the wheels. it is flipped upside down as to indicate it may have lost ground and rolled over. none of the old timers can tell me if this is correct or not. but its still out there in the swamp
