When my husband got snipped I really did just wait in the car with our 2 week old baby. It was pouring down raining and I needed to feed her. No one came and checked that he was getting in the car with me and not an Uber.

That’s how it works pretty much everywhere except where Nurses husband got snipped.

Where did I say he got snipped? He had a procedure on his back done at a surgery center where he was heavily sedated for it.

Just like the other poster in here that mentioned he had sedation done and they required his transportation be present in the waiting room before and while he had his procedure...same type of thing when my husband had his procedure done.

Again...it's gonna be a clinic by clinic basis. Op just needs to call his clinic first thing tomorrow am to confirm. However, his clinic should have given him a packet full of information that clearly spelled all this out for him ahead of time.

What person doesn't have family or even just a friend that would give them a ride home after something like that though?

The person that doesn't think family or friends need to know they are getting a vasectomy.

I didn't take any valium, they rolled me to the door of the building, I told them my ride would be there shortly, they left, I walked to my car, and drove home.

You don’t get heavily sedated for a snip. If you’re lucky they’ll give you a Valium. That’s it.

Why wouldn't you opt for the good stuff (IV sedation)? I had that just getting wisdom teeth cut out of my mouth.

I have had more discomfort than the vasectomy getting my teeth cleaned.

Getting your wisdom teeth cut out and having a small incision on your nut sack isn’t even comparable

IV sedation isn't the same as "going under" though. It's conscious sedation. You are just given some IV medications that temporarily sedate you long enough for the procedure. You are closely monitored of course....but it isn't like getting general anesthesia. You are breathing on your own in conscious sedation (unlike general anesthesia where an airway is inserted while you are out and your breathing is controlled).

Completely agree. Recovery for both is not fun. If we are going apples to apples on the procedure itself, I'll take a cut in the nuts any day.

I drove home right after my vasectomy. No problem.

Besides, you’re presumably a grown man. Do you think they strap you down or something? It isn’t jail.

No, but if you don't have a driver present beforehand, some clinics will tell you to get fricked and to make sure you don't forget the condom because they won't be performing the procedure.

Do you think they have to perform the procedure on you if you don't follow their clinic's rules? It's not jail.

The fact is that some clinics have more stringent rules about stuff like that, ESPECIALLY if they're going to be administering any drug that will alter your mind. What do you think happens when the plaintiff's attorney suing you for running over his client's kid finds out the doctor gave you Valium to take your nerves down a notch for your vasectomy and then let you get behind the wheel of a car right before you bumper smacked little Jimmy? That's why many clinics are VERY strict about patients having rides after some procedures; it's not just for your safety, it's a MASSIVE liability issue. Same reason they insist on wheeling you out to your ride and helping you in. You can't slip and fall if you're not walking on your own and are helped into the car. Once you're safely in that passenger seat, their liability plummets.

It's always your prerogative to try to find a doctor who'll get you fricked up and let you drive after, I guess, but I'm betting that your better doctors and clinics are going to require you to have a ride and wheel you out to it.

No, before they cut you they ensure an adult driver you trust is there. your person.

I used to think this theory was ridiculous but then realized that you are so loopy and drugged the uber/taxi driver could rob you blind and take you to your ATM and rob you some more with no lube.

I forgot how a vasectomy is no big deal. Someone already asked this on reddit. It all depends on your sedation. Instead of asking the OT call your doctors office. Sidenote: If you opt out of the valium, you may be able to uber it? If you don't go home and get in a recliner with ice bags on your testicles, you may regret it...
